Most of the time, a high uric acid level occurs when your kidneys don’t eliminate uric acid efficiently. Diabetic Care

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a disease in which your blood glucose, or Blood Sugar, levels are too high. Glucose comes from the foods you eat. Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to give them energy.

Without enough insulin, the glucose stays in your blood. With Type 1 Diabetes, your body does not make insulin. With Type 2 Diabetes, the more common type, your body does not make or use insulin well.

You can also have prediabetes. It means that your blood sugar is higher than average but not high enough to be called diabetes. Having PreDiabetes puts you at a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause Serious Problems. It can damage your Eyes, Kidneys, and Nerves. Diabetes can also cause Heart Disease, stroke, and even the need to remove a limb. Pregnant women can also get diabetes, called Gestational Diabetes.

Blood tests can show if you have diabetes. One type of test, the A1C, can also check how you manage your diabetes. Exercise, weight control, and sticking to your Meal Plan can help control your diabetes. You should also monitor your blood glucose level and take medicine if prescribed.

Cardiovascular Health

One of your most vital vital-organs is your heart. Without it, the oxygen brought in by your lungs would not be carried to other organs, like your brain. Your body would have a challenging time fighting off infections and viruses because your blood is also responsible for delivering white blood cells where they are needed. Under our compassionate and thorough care, you can rest easy knowing we take every step we can to help you stay as healthy as possible. If you would like to improve your cardiovascular health, call our clinic at +971 (0)4 352 9292 or book an Appointment Online.

What Is Cardiovascular Health?

Cardiovascular health is the health of your heart and blood vessels. The prefix, cardio-, refers to the heart, while -vascular refers to the blood vessels. Together, these two make up your circulatory system, which is responsible for pumping and moving blood and oxygen throughout your entire body.

Men's Health

DOCFAB, in partnership with uniCare, provides comprehensive men’s health services while making you feel at ease and comfortable with your body and any health concerns you may have.

What are the biggest concerns regarding men’s health?

As a group, men tend to avoid discussing their health or any concerns with anyone, including their doctors. However, putting off physical exams and preventive screens can allow underlying conditions to progress if left untreated. As men age, there are several common conditions that men are at higher risk of developing, and they include:

  • Colon cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Liver disease
  • Low testosterone disorders
  • Prostate cancer
  • Stroke

Though some conditions increase risk with age, it is essential to receive regular medical care regardless of your age.

hypertension

Blood pressure is the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. Each time your heart beats, it pumps blood into the arteries. Your blood pressure is highest when your heart beats, pumping the blood. This is called systolic pressure. When your heart is at rest, your blood pressure falls between beats. This is called diastolic pressure.

Your blood pressure reading uses these two numbers. Usually, the systolic number comes before or above the diastolic number. A reading of

  • 119/79 or lower is normal blood pressure
  • 140/90 or higher is high blood pressure
  • Between 120 and 139 for the top number, or between 80 and 89 for the bottom number, is called prehypertension. Prehypertension means you may end up with high blood pressure unless you take steps to prevent it.

High blood pressure usually has no symptoms, but it can cause serious problems such as Stroke, Heart Failure, Heart Attack, and Kidney Failure.

If needed, you can control high blood pressure through Healthy Lifestyle Habits such as exercise and the DASH Diet and take Medicines.

hyperlipedemia - elevated cholesterol

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells, but high cholesterol levels can increase your risk of heart disease.

With high cholesterol, you can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels. Eventually, these deposits grow, making it difficult for enough blood to flow through your arteries. Sometimes, those deposits can break suddenly and form a clot that causes a heart attack or stroke.

High cholesterol can be inherited, but it’s often the result of unhealthy lifestyle choices, making it preventable and treatable. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and sometimes medication can help reduce high cholesterol.

Symptoms: High cholesterol has no signs. A blood test is the only way to detect if you have it.

Weight Loss

Keeping a healthy weight is crucial. If you are underweight, overweight, or obese, you may have a higher risk of specific health problems.

About two-thirds of adults in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Achieving a healthy weight can help you control your cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar. It might also help prevent weight-related diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and some cancers.

Eating too much or not being physically active enough will make you overweight. The calories you eat must equal the energy you burn to maintain your weight. To lose weight, you must use more calories than you eat. A weight-control strategy might include the following:

  • Choosing low-fat, low-calorie foods
  • Eating smaller portions
  • Drinking water instead of sugary drinks
  • Being physically active

Eating extra calories within a well-balanced diet can help to add weight.

Thyroid disorders

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the base of your neck below the cartilage known as Adam’s apple. Two primary problems can occur with your thyroid: the overproduction of thyroid hormones called hyperthyroidism, including Graves’ disease, and the underproduction of hypothyroidism, including Hashimoto’s disease. Thyroid problems can be well-managed when properly diagnosed and treated in most cases.

As part of the endocrine system, the thyroid produces two main hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These two hormones influence every single cell in your body. From how your body metabolizes fats and carbohydrates, to temperature regulation and heart rate, to the production of protein – thyroid hormones are center stage.

Microbiome Support (Gut Health)

The microbiome is a collective term for the trillions of bacteria, viruses, and fungi found throughout our bodies. While some of these are responsible for the disease, many more are vital to the proper functionality of the brain, immune system, heart, weight, digestion, and more. Many of these exist in our intestines, specifically in a “pocket” in the large intestine called the cecum. This “pocket” is referred to as the gut microbiome and includes over 2,000 different species of bacteria alone.

Many are surprised to know that the human body comprises approximately 40 trillion bacterial cells, but only 30 trillion human cells! These 40 trillion bacteria weigh as much as your brain (2-5 pounds) and essentially function as an extra organ of the body by aiding in numerous bodily functions. Your gut microbiome is an integral part of your health, and without it, it would be difficult to survive.

Uric acid - hyperuricemia

Most of the time, a high uric acid level occurs when your kidneys don’t eliminate uric acid efficiently. Things that may cause this slow-down in removing uric acid include rich foods, being overweight, having diabetes, taking certain diuretics (sometimes called water pills), and drinking too much alcohol. Other less common causes are a diet high in purine-containing items or your body producing too much uric acid.

Factors that may cause a high uric acid level in your blood include:

  • Diuretics (water retention relievers)
  • Drinking too much alcohol
  • Genetics (inherited tendencies)
  • Hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid)
  • Immune-suppressing drugs
  • Niacin, or vitamin B-3
  • Obesity
  • Psoriasis
  • Purine-rich diet — liver, game meat, anchovies, sardines, gravy, dried beans and peas, mushrooms, and other foods
  • Renal insufficiency (inability of the kidneys to filter waste)
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (a rapid release of cells into the blood caused by certain cancers or by chemotherapy for those cancers)
